Things can go seriously wrong for any school and any school leader at any time. A sudden crisis, a vexatious allegation, a minor matter that spirals out of control, a traumatic and protracted media onslaught - problems that are bringing turbulence and distress to too many schools and school leaders with unblemished careers.
Stopping Bad Things Happening to Good Schools and Good School Leaders focuses on what schools can do to prevent and protect themselves from shock-to-the-system and school-harming events.
It addresses three key questions: Q. What can schools and their leaders do to try to prevent school-harming events occurring in the first place? Q. How can schools best prepare for the possibility of having to deal with a school-harming event? Q. How specifically should school leaders respond when bad things do happen?
This is a book inspired by the first-hand experiences of the author and the schools he has worked with and supported. In the final section, three headteachers who have been through the kinds of situations discussed in the book provide illuminating accounts of their own experiences.
