TAKE THE LEAD is one of four books by Professor Sonia Blandford, founder and CEO of the award winning charity Achievement for All and listed as one of Debrett’s 500 most influential for 2016.
They each share the lessons that can be learned from the thousands of schools who have signed up to Achievement for All’s high impact approach to education and who have bought into the charity’s commitment to close the achievement gap in Britain’s schools.
Professor Blandford presents her own life story and experience as a teacher, draws on research and best practice, and talks to school leaders, teachers, parents and students (conversations which are presented as interviews within the books) and then brings to the table actions and ideas that leaders, teachers and parents can use to make those things too often considered ambiguous – vision, ethos, aspiration and achievement – a reality in the school day.
TAKE THE LEAD is a book for school leaders. It taps into their ambitions to ensure every pupil on their register makes progress above national expectations and shares the framework Achievement for All offers which enables them to do that. Packed with ideas and experience from Professor Blandford’s team and the leaders she’s working with.

Price Value QualityProfessor Blandford brings to life the essence of what every single education leader across the world wishes for their pupils; high aspirations, secure progress and the resilience to walk with confidence into adult life. This book offers both well used and innovative organisational strategies which bring to life what education and success is all about for all our pupils- not just those pupils who would succeed whether we taught them well or not- but ALL our pupils. All middle leaders, aspiring head teachers and serving head teachers and educationalists will find this book a deeply thought provoking read!
When leaders are faced with immediate challenges, Professor Blandford asserts, sometimes... leaders 'fail to see the bigger picture'. This is certainly true for all the busy leaders in challenging circumstances. 'Take the lead' gives facts, strategies, ideas, case studies and more importantly demands of us to make the right choices for ALL the pupils we teach.
This is a FANTASTIC book that will not take long to read and is worth every single minute of that time investment!
